Real Time PCR based

SpesLab is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (SANAS) accredited for Full Salmonella Serotyping which detects more than 2500 serotypes!

Full serotyping has a turnaround time of 3-5 days; however, we do offer a
“Rush Service” which shortens the turnaround time to 2 days.

Our method has been ISO 17025/SANAS accredited since October 2021 and has approval from the DALRRD (Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development).
More about Full Salmonella Serotyping
Salmonella Serotyping is important in food safety to control Salmonellosis. It is therefore critical to determine the serotype of Salmonella in food consumed by the public.

Traditionally, Salmonella Serotyping is done using the Kauffman-Whit-Le Minor scheme. This method utilises agglutination of the bacteria with hundreds of the specific sera and requires a phase inversion process. This is expensive and time consuming; it is also extremely complex, limited by antisera availability, and may produce inconsistent results.

Speslab uses molecular based serotyping (Real-time PCR) instead, which is more rapid, sensitive and specific in detecting Salmonella serotypes. This saves significant amounts of time, labour and expenses, without the potential pitfalls of traditional serotyping.
